The main sectors of the Epilepsy Centre

The main sectors of the Epilepsy Centre The Swiss Epilepsy Centre consists of four main complementary sectors:

 

Out-patients department

The clinic registers more than 3500 visits annually from patients needing out-patient treatment and advice.

 

Hospital for adults

29 beds are available for examinations and treatment. The hospitalisation usually lasts from two or three days up to a few weeks. Apart from the medical diagnosis and therapy, the clinic also offers consultation in the psycho-social field and advice on measures to be taken in job problems.

 

Residential care for adults

We have 177 beds available for long-term residential care. This for handicapped patients with difficult-to-control seizures. The residents living here receive the care they need and are occupied according to their abilities.

 

Hospital for children and adolescents

Children from the age of 6 months can be examined and treated. Children and adolescents with epilepsy and other problems or handicaps can also be treated and cared for during a longer period of time. For this we have 15 beds available in the clinic for children and adolescents. The interdisciplinary teams are from the fields of medicine, nursing, psychology, education and infant training, special education, physiotherapy and therapeutic horse-riding.

 

Important facts and figures

In Switzerland approx. 70'000 people suffer from epilepsy. Thanks to diagnostic and therapeutic developments, the treatment of epilepsy has made great improvements and about 70% of all people with epilepsy will become free from attacks or have very few of them.Most people with epilepsy are able to lead normal lives and work in various professions.
